What is the Bible?

The word Bible just means Book. It is the most important book ever written, because the Bible is God's message to all people. It tells us all about God, Jesus and how we can get to heaven.

why is the Bible special?

We read the Bible to learn about God. The Bible tells us about how we can love Jesus and how we can live the way God wants us to. We also read the Bible to learn about other people who loved God and Jesus. If we didn't have the Bible we wouldn't know a lot about God or Jesus.

did God write the Bible?

The Bible is not like any other book you can read. Other books have the thoughts and ideas of people, but the Bible is God's own message. Every single word in the Bible is true.

It was begun in the time of Moses and finished about 65 years after Jesus went to heaven. It wasn't written in one long book but is actually 66 different books put together. Some of these smaller books were written by the same person, some were written by different people.

About 40 different people in total wrote the Bible including Moses, King David and Paul. All of these people heard God's thoughts and wrote His message in the Bible.

is there an old Bible and a new Bible?

There is only one Bible, but it is in 2 parts. The Old Testament and the New Testament.

The word testament means promise. It is a promise from God to us.

The Old Testament tells us about the time of when the world was made, the story of Noah, Moses, King David and other people.

The New Testament begins when Jesus was born, and is God's new promise to us. The New Testament tells us all about Jesus - His life and His death and new life. It finishes by telling us about Heaven and what it will be like when Jesus comes back to the world again.

The Bible may be called "God's Word" or "Holy Bible" or "scripture".

"Scripture" just means writing. "Holy" means perfect, because God is perfect.
